An established presence at previous Autosport exhibitions, XYZ Machine Tools will demonstrate five machines on its stand at the 2010 event.
With much of the demand within motorsport being for prototype and small batch production, the focus will again be on XYZ’s longstanding commitment to the workshop environment. In fact, the company’s customer base encompasses every facet of motorsport from Formula One to specialist subcontracting companies, and the XYZ team headed by managing director, Nigel Atherton, understands fully the time and cost pressures that these businesses face.
Three of the five machines on the XYZ stand will be CNC/manual models featuring the shopfloor programmable ProtoTrak system, while the full CNC XYZ Compact Turn 52 turning centre and XYZ 710 vertical machining centre are equipped as standard with Siemens ShopTurn and ShopMill conversational control systems.
By combining the simplicity and flexibility of manual machining with the computer-based capability of defining arcs, angles and circles, ProtoTrak equipped machines such as the XYZ SMX 2000 turret mill, XYZ SMX 3500 bed mill and XYZ ProTurn SLX 425 lathe contribute to significantly reduced set-up times and labour costs.
The same ‘easy to use’ philosophy is behind XYZ’s decision to fit its full CNC machines such as the XYZ Compact Turn 52 and XYZ 710 VMC as standard with Siemens CNC controls, which can be programmed either on- or offline without any G coding knowledge. Using simple command prompts, the operator creates a ‘workplan’ of the machining process while the control takes care of all the coding in the background. The screen display shows the result in plan, three planes or full 3D.
“We only supply quality built machine tools equipped with the very best in powerful but easy to use CNC controls,” says Nigel Atherton, “and every new XYZ machine tool is backed by a full warranty, free training and full UK aftersales service and support.”
