With its LX series, Matsuura has enjoyed success across a diverse span of precision industry sectors. Since the series’ debut in 1998, multiple and bespoke variants of the hand built machines have been delivered to leading edge technology companies involved in precision moulding, dental and medical equipment, F1 and motorsport, satellites and aerospace.

Developed in response to changing market dynamics and to meet requests from emerging sectors for advanced sustained precision and ultra high speed machining, three new models will join the LX-160 in the near future – the LF-160, LS-160 and LV-500. Each derivative will fulfil a growing requirement for new machining techniques and high technology when processing a wide spectrum of established and emerging materials.

The design of the new LX-160 linear motor 5-axis machine has been based on its predecessor, the LX0-5AX – a machine that proved that reliable high rapid traverse rates and spindles operating for long periods at in excess of 40,000rpm were a viable cost-effective option for progressive companies seeking new market advantages and a competitive edge.

Released with a full suite of productivity enhancing options, including large capacity pallet and toolchangers and a raft of OEM software, the LX-160 features travels of 500/250/300mm (X, Y, Z) and can accommodate workpieces of 160mm diameter by 230mm height.

Loading capacity is 20kg and the BT30/HSK-E40 spindle offers 46,000rpm. Rapid traverse rates of 90m/minute in the X-, Y- and Z-axes are complemented by traverse in the B- and C-axes of 100/200°. A wide range of tooling options is also available.
