Companies operating machine tools will be able to benefit from extended tool life, improved component quality, reduced maintenance and spare parts costs, according to Fluid Maintenance Solutions.

The company has been appointed by RBM di Battistutta of Italy as the sole UK agent for its IFDR range of advanced metalworking fluid filtration solutions for machine tools and grinding systems. These have been proven in many different applications on equipment from leading manufacturers including Mazak, Mori Seiki, Hermle, Kitamura, Mandelli, Tachella Cross, Favretto, and CB Ferrari.

Extended tool life, improved component quality, reduced fluid use and disposal, elimination of paper media purchases and disposal, elimination of maintenance and spare parts costs have all been reported by those who have retrofitted IFDR systems to their existing machine tools.

The design of the IFDR systems offers manufacturers the opportunity to increase productivity and reduce environmental impact whether as a retrofit or part of a turnkey installation. The performance of the IFDR systems is guaranteed with high pressure fluid return currently up to 100 bar – all achieved without disposable media, avoiding consumable inventory handling and hazardous waste disposal costs. The IFDR systems have no media related downtime and can run for over two years without the need for service. Servicing is said to be simple with no need to purchase spares kits to replace wear parts.

At the heart of all IFDR systems lies Industria’s patented Filstar element-less filter and a tramp oil separator which provide a clean fluid returned to the machine tool to meet the demands of high performance machining and grinding operations.

Steve Thompson, a director at Fluid Maintenance Solutions comments: “As engineers with metalworking fluid sales experience we are very aware of how much waste is generated in the use of these fluids. We believe the IFDR systems are a true step change in metalworking fluid filtration technology.

“We are absolutely delighted to be able to supply these innovative solutions to UK manufacturers. By investing in a demonstration unit for shop floor trials we can show the benefits that IFDR can provide first hand.”

Speaking about the appointment, Enrico Battistutta, managing director of RBM adds: “The choice of Fluid Maintenance Solutions as our representative in the UK is because they share the same values related to the environment and the benefits of waste recycling – significantly reducing the environmental impact and prolonging fluid life.

“The cleaner a metalworking fluid being delivered to the cutting zone, the greater the machining performance and the lower the cost per part. This is the primary function of an IFDR system. It efficiently removes contamination from the entire volume of the metalworking fluid. Combined with a conveyor where swarf is removed separately the highly abrasive fines removed by the IFDR systems will help improve productivity and overall equipment effectiveness.”
