Leading manufacturer and supplier of carbide cutting tools and tooling systems solutions, Seco Tools has increased its range of standard PCD tools for milling and drilling composite materials.
The new tool range, that includes Jabro composite cutters and Seco Feedmax drills, has solid carbide bodies and feature PCD cutting edges that are not only wear resistant but deliver high part accuracies and increased productivity.
PCD tools exhibit a number of performance benefits to manufacturers: their sharpness delivers improved surface finishes, good fibre cuts and low heat generation which reduces delamination, increases productivity and improves process reliability; their hardness makes them more highly resistant with long tool life; their accuracy allows manufacturers to maintain very tight tolerances and super fine surface finishes; and their thermal conductivity lowers process temperatures generated during cutting operations, allowing higher cutting speeds to be used.
Jabro composite PCD cutters have a special PCD blade design that improves thermal wear resistance and enables higher feed rates to be employed. The cutters are designed and manufactured with shear angle variations (neutral, positive or negative) and are available in a range of sizes from 6mm to 16mm diameter. All Jabro PCD cutters have two internal through coolant channels for efficient cooling and temperature control.
The new range of Seco Feedmax drills – available in 4mm to 25mm diameter sizes – feature a 120° degree drill point design and sharp and durable PCD cutting edges. A particular strength of the drills is their ability to cut for long periods of time without any loss of performance or need for replacement and their inherent sharpness and high dimensional tolerance enables excellent surface finishes and challenging hole tolerances to be achieved.
“The new range of PCD tools is an important addition to our extensive composite materials cutting tool portfolio, and will be of particular interest to aerospace, marine and motorsport precision component manufacturers,” comments Seco’s technical and marketing manager, Mike Fleming.
